Record group of new employees joins Fulton County Sheriff’s Office workforce

Fulton County, Georgia – Last week was significant for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office since a new class of employees officially started their jobs. This was the largest number of new hires at once since Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat took office in early 2021.

During an orientation, Sheriff Labat and members of his command staff greeted the new workers. The session highlighted the agency’s ongoing efforts to develop and strengthen its workforce.

The group includes 18 employees filling a range of critical roles within the agency. Among them are nine detention officers and two deputy sheriffs, positions that play a central role in daily operations. There are also five cadet deputy sheriffs in the class who will keep training, as well as a criminal information systems technician and a criminal information systems supervisor who will help with managing records and data.

The class has a lot of different people with different personal and professional experiences, in addition to the number of new employees. Some of the new personnel are from New York, Florida, Ohio, and Louisiana, while others are from Jamaica, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Pakistan. Several people in the organization are from Fulton County, so they have ties to the area and know the people they will be serving.

Sheriff Labat said that the event was both significant and encouraging. He said that the size of the class shows that people are becoming more confident in the agency’s path.

“Meeting with the largest new employee orientation group since my administration this morning was both humbling and energizing,” said Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat.

“It shows that people believe in our mission, our reforms, and our vision for the future. I’m proud to welcome each of them to our team dedicated to service and making a real difference in Fulton County.”

Coordinated work behind the scenes led to the effective onboarding of the class. The Background and Recruitment section and the Human Resources team were very important in screening, processing, and getting the group ready to start at the beginning of the year.

Their work helped make sure that the new employees could easily move into their new jobs as the agency continues to focus on keeping staffing and operations afloat.
