Fulton County, Georgia – Fulton County is opening the door for a new group of student leaders, with applications now available for the 2026-2027 Youth Commission.
The program, led through the County’s Department of Community Development, is aimed at high school students who want to step into meaningful leadership roles and speak up on issues affecting young people across the community.
The opportunity is open to students who will be in grades 9 through 11 during the 2026-2027 academic year. County officials said applications must be submitted by 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, giving eligible students several weeks to prepare their materials and consider what they hope to bring to the program.

The Fulton County Youth Commission, often referred to as FCYC, is designed for students who want more than a line on a resume. Its mission centers on advocacy, leadership, and service, with a strong focus on children and youth issues in Fulton County.
Through the program, students are given a chance to take part in discussions about the challenges facing young people while also helping shape the conversation with the perspective only youth can provide.
Those selected to serve will take on a serious commitment. Youth Commissioners may volunteer up to 20 hours each month in planning meetings and community-based work, adding up to more than 120 hours over the course of the year. Along the way, participants build leadership experience, strengthen their understanding of human services, and help create a connection between local officials and the young residents they serve.
The commission includes 31 student members, each playing a role in community projects, outreach efforts, and youth advocacy. Commissioners also serve as liaisons to other young people, helping local government better understand the concerns, pressures, and priorities that shape student life in Fulton County. In that way, the program becomes more than an extracurricular activity. It becomes a bridge between today’s youth and tomorrow’s civic leadership.
To be considered, applicants must live in Fulton County, attend a public, private, or charter school within the county, and be enrolled in grades 9 through 11 during the 2026-2027 school year. Students must also submit a completed application along with a two-page essay.
