Fulton County, Georgia – For many families, buying a home begins long before a closing date. It starts with questions: How much can I afford? What help is available? What should I know before taking the first step?
In Fulton County, those questions are taking center stage this June as officials recognize National Homeownership Month and continue efforts to make the path to ownership easier to understand.
The county’s Department of Community Development is using the national observance to bring together people who play key roles in the housing process. Lenders, realtors and residents interested in becoming homebuyers are being invited to learn more about what it takes to purchase a home and how local programs may help reduce some of the financial pressure.

As part of that outreach, Community Development will host a virtual Homebuyer Workshop on Monday, June 22, 2026, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The session is designed to explain the homeownership process in simple terms while also sharing details about Fulton County’s down payment assistance program.
The workshop will cover several topics that often shape a buyer’s decision. Participants will hear about the benefits of buying a home, financial readiness, down payment assistance programs, first-time homeowner essentials and post-purchase steps that can help protect their investment after the sale is complete.
One major focus will be Fulton County’s Homeownership Program, known as HOP. The program provides affordable mortgage financing for eligible first-time homebuyers. For those who qualify, HOP offers a deferred loan with no monthly payment and 0% interest. The assistance is meant to support buyers who are ready for homeownership but may need help closing the gap between savings, income and upfront costs.
Eligibility rules apply. To qualify for HOP assistance, the home must be located in Fulton County but outside the City of Atlanta. That requirement is important for buyers to understand before moving too far into the process or selecting a property.
Registration for the virtual Homebuyers Workshop is available through the county’s online sign-up link. After registering, participants will automatically receive the meeting link.
By connecting residents with information, financing guidance and local assistance options, Fulton County is using National Homeownership Month not simply as a calendar observance, but as a chance to open a wider door for future homeowners.
