Fulton County, Georgia – Fulton County’s voice is getting a wider audience. Vice Chair Khadijah Abdur-Rahman is taking on several national roles that will put local priorities — from housing and workforce development to the arts — into conversations involving county leaders from across the United States.
The District 6 commissioner has been appointed to three groups within the National Association of Counties, or NACo, expanding her work beyond Fulton County while keeping issues affecting local residents at the center of her agenda.
Abdur-Rahman will serve on NACo’s Community, Economic and Workforce Development Policy Steering Committee, the Arts and Culture Innovation Council and the Large Urban County Caucus, commonly known as LUCC.
Each appointment carries a different focus.

On the Community, Economic and Workforce Development Policy Steering Committee, Abdur-Rahman will work alongside elected officials on federal policy, legislation and programs involving housing. The committee also develops strategies related to local economic growth, public works and job training.
The broader goal is to help counties maintain the resources and local authority needed to strengthen communities, whether they are urban, suburban or rural. For Fulton County, the appointment gives Abdur-Rahman an opportunity to bring ongoing local priorities into national policy discussions while also working with county officials facing similar challenges elsewhere.
Her appointment to the Arts and Culture Innovation Council will place another part of Fulton County’s work on the national stage. In that role, Abdur-Rahman will advocate for the importance of arts and culture and their place within county communities.

Her work with the Large Urban County Caucus will focus more specifically on the needs of metropolitan areas. LUCC brings together leaders from large urban counties and works to represent their interests before Congress and the federal administration.
For Abdur-Rahman, the three appointments are also an extension of work already underway at home.
“I am once again grateful and proud to receive the opportunity to serve not only the constituents in the ‘Mighty District 6’, but all Fulton County residents on a national level,” said Vice Chair Abdur-Rahman.
“The work that will be accomplished through this NACo policy steering committee fully align with the work currently underway in Fulton County.”
Through the appointments, Abdur-Rahman will now have a direct role in national discussions covering several issues that counties routinely confront, housing, jobs, infrastructure, economic development and cultural investment, while representing Fulton County alongside elected officials from communities across the country.
