Alpharetta, Georgia – Once again, the City of Alpharetta is urging people to repurpose their holiday trees into something useful by participating in this year’s Bring One for The Chipper program. On Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., people can drop off their trees at The Home Depot parking lot at 5300 Windward Parkway. Last January, Alpharetta’s drop-off facility took in and recycled 1,325 trees. Organizers hope to see a lot of people participate again this year.
You can only bring in natural holiday trees that don’t have any decorations, stands, or plastic on them. The trees won’t go to waste after they are collected. Davey Tree will turn them into mulch, which will subsequently be given to public playgrounds, city parks, local government beautification projects, and even private yards. People who bring a tree can also fill out a request form to get some of this mulch for free. This will help their tree last longer in a new and helpful way.
The event is also a good time to get rid of outdated holiday clutter. People who don’t want their Christmas tree lights anymore can bring them with them when they drop off their tree. These lights will also be recycled, so they won’t end up in landfills.
Bring One for The Chipper in Alpharetta is part of a long-running statewide effort to recycle real Christmas trees. In Georgia, more than 6 million trees have been repurposed since the initiative started 35 years ago. Even if fake trees are becoming more widespread, organizers stress that real trees are still good for families and nature, especially when they are recycled properly.
The City of Alpharetta and the Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission’s Keep Alpharetta Beautiful program work together to plan the event in the area. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation run the statewide initiative Bring One for The Chipper. Corporate sponsors include The Home Depot, 11 Alive, Davey Tree Company, Ferry Morse, Burpee, and the Georgia Forestry Commission. The Windward Parkway Home Depot, the Alpharetta Rotary Club, and the Alpharetta Young Men’s Service League are cosponsoring the event.
Residents can get in touch with Terry Porter at [email protected] or by phone at 678-297-6213 if they want to know more about the event or the process for requesting mulch.
