Alpharetta, Georgia – Old paint cans, unused chemicals and forgotten containers of gasoline often sit in garages and storage areas for years. For Alpharetta residents ready to clear out these materials, the city is offering a free opportunity to get rid of them without worrying about improper disposal.
The catch? Participation is limited, and residents must reserve their spot before the collection day arrives.
The City of Alpharetta has scheduled a Household Hazardous Waste and Paint Disposal event for Saturday, November 7, 2026. The one-day collection will allow eligible residents to bring unwanted household materials for recycling or safe disposal, helping keep potentially dangerous substances out of regular household trash.
The event is available exclusively to people living within Alpharetta city limits. Local businesses cannot participate, and the city has emphasized that the number of available spots is limited.
Residents must complete online pre-registration by Wednesday, November 4. Those who successfully register will receive a confirmation email, which they must bring when dropping off their materials.
Collection will take place November 7 between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The city has stated that these hours will be strictly enforced, with no exceptions.

Among the materials accepted are leftover paint, paint-related products, old gasoline, household chemicals, automotive and gardening chemicals, poisons and other hazardous substances commonly found around homes.
This year’s collection also includes household fire extinguishers, with a limit of 15, and small household propane cylinders measuring 16 ounces. Larger propane cylinders and tanks will not be accepted.
There is no fee for disposing of approved materials. However, residents should review the official collection guidelines and registration form to confirm which products qualify.
Participants should transport their materials safely, keeping substances separated and in their original containers. Upon arriving at the collection site, drivers will be required to remain inside their vehicles while trained technicians unload the items.
Separately, the Alpharetta Public Works Department maintains a permanent glass recycling drop-off location at 1790 Hembree Road. That facility accepts clean glass food and beverage containers only.
Residents seeking additional information about the November collection can contact Terry Porter at 678-297-6213 or email [email protected].
With limited registration available, households planning to participate are encouraged to complete the required paperwork before the November 4 deadline.
