Atlanta, Georgia – Atlanta is getting ready to ring in the New Year with a new citywide event that moves away from a single meeting location and takes the moment to neighborhoods all around the city. This year’s New Year’s Eve extravaganza, called “Countdown Over ATL,” will have synchronized fireworks and a spectacular drone show that may be seen from many places, according to Mayor Andre Dickens.
Instead of the conventional Peach Drop, the new format uses a decentralized strategy that lets more people take part without having to go to a single packed location. City officials say that the celebration will include a synchronized fireworks show across Atlanta and a digital drone peach countdown that can be visible primarily in Downtown and Midtown.
Mayor Dickens indicated that the city intended to change how people celebrate the event while still retaining the spirit of Atlanta’s long-standing New Year’s Eve traditions.
“The Annual Peach Drop has been a big part of our city’s New Year’s Eve since 1989, bringing people together in a way only Atlanta can. However, this New Year’s Eve, we are reimagining that tradition with Countdown Over ATL,” said Mayor Andre Dickens.
“We cannot wait for residents and visitors to experience several fireworks displays that will light up the night across Atlanta. All you have to do is step outside, hit your neighborhood spot, meet on a rooftop or watch from your backyard, and you’ll be part of one special shared moment. Atlanta is a city of opportunity for all, and this year we are going to meet you where you are.”
A 12-minute New Year’s Eve activation that culminates at midnight will be the main event of the celebration. The drone show will end with coordinated fireworks that will be sent off from several places. This will provide a coherent visual experience without putting a lot of people in one place. City authorities said that this method helps with planning for public safety while still giving them a special midnight moment.

The drone peach will be most apparent in Downtown and Midtown, while the fireworks can be seen throughout the city. Residents are invited to meet together in their neighborhoods, either at public places or private outdoor areas, to celebrate the New Year.
The city said it is working with local companies to set up rooftop viewing areas for people who can’t see well because of buildings or trees. The city’s official website should have a list of rooftops that are taking part in the event up in the next several days.
City officials call “Countdown Over ATL” a forward-looking concept that strikes a mix between tradition and new ideas. It gives people in Atlanta a safe, easy, and citywide way to ring in the New Year.
