Atlanta, Georgia – A 22.5-acre stretch of land in Atlanta’s Grove Park neighborhood is moving closer to a new chapter, with city leaders preparing to celebrate a donation that could eventually bring affordable housing, neighborhood resources and other community-focused development to the area.
On Saturday, September 12, residents will gather at the former Microsoft property at Quarry Yards, marking both the land transfer and the beginning of the next phase of planning for a site along Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.
The City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation will host the community celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1401 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy. NW. The event will recognize Microsoft’s November 2025 donation of approximately 22.5 acres while also celebrating Grove Park’s history and the generations of residents who have shaped the neighborhood.

Microsoft purchased the larger Quarry Yards property in 2021 and committed to reserving about one-quarter of the site for community use. The donated parcel fronts Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and sits near KIPP Woodson Academy and the Grove Park Recreation Center.
“This land donation creates an important opportunity to deliver meaningful benefits for Grove Park residents,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.
“Through our Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative, we are focused on bringing investment, resources and opportunity to communities that have gone without for too long.”
Dickens said the city, AUD and Grove Park residents will work together so the property can support affordable housing, stronger neighborhood resources and long-term opportunities.
The donation also connects with the mayor’s goal of building or preserving 20,000 affordable housing units by 2029. AUD’s broader mission includes using publicly controlled property to develop mixed-income communities with amenities and long-term affordability.
“Through this land donation, we’re advancing a shared vision for Atlanta that supports families, empowers students, and strengthens local communities,” said Kia Floyd, General Manager of State Government Affairs for Microsoft. “We’re honored to partner with the City and AUD to make this a reality.”
AUD CEO John Majors said the partnership shows how public and private organizations can work together to improve quality of life while creating new opportunities for residents.
Saturday’s celebration will highlight that partnership while giving Grove Park residents and other stakeholders a chance to recognize the neighborhood’s past and look toward what may come next for the donated land.
