Fulton County, Georgia – As the new school year approaches, Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr. is once again stepping up to help area families and students with his 11th Annual “It Takes a Village” Back-to-School Supply Giveaway.
The goal of the initiative is to make sure that all children in District 5 have the supplies they need to start the school year 2025–2026 on the right foot. This summer, the Commissioner and his community partners will hold three events in different places to give away backpacks and school supplies to families for free.
On Friday, July 18, from 5 to 6 p.m., the Wolf Creek Library in Atlanta will host the first giveaway. The second event will take place on Thursday, July 24, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Fairburn Hobgood-Palmer Library. Both of these events will have drive-thru pickups, which will make it quick and convenient for families to get the items they need.
The last and third event will take place on Friday, July 25, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Gladys S. Dennard Library in Union City. This event will have more than just school supplies; it will also include the awarding of college book scholarships and the “Write 2 Rise” campaign, which will give students a chance to speak out.
As part of a larger push to give kids more authority after high school, Commissioner Arrington is also asking college students to enter a special essay contest. Students who live in or go to school in Fulton County are asked to write a 1,500-word essay about the three most important political problems that they think the next U.S. president should focus on.
Families who want to take part in any of the giveaways must RSVP and provide ID to prove they live in Fulton County. Families can only get supplies at one place, and they will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Commissioner Arrington’s ongoing commitment to children and education shows that he believes that investing in students is the key to making communities better, one backpack at a time.
