Fulton County combats food access issues with mobile market offering free fruits, veggies, and recipes

Fulton County, Georgia – Thanks to the return of the Fulton Fresh Mobile Market for its second summer session, Fulton County residents will soon have another chance to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Fulton County Cooperative Extension is putting on the Mobile Market, which will be going around from June 10 to June 26. This will make it easy for people in the area to acquire fruits and vegetables.

This summer session will last three days a week, with stops at important neighborhood locations every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The truck will be available twice a day at each stop, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This will deliver nutritious food alternatives straight to neighborhoods that may not always have easy access to fresh foods.

On Tuesdays, the Mobile Market will start its day at 10 a.m. at Providence Missionary Baptist Church on Benjamin E. Mays Drive. At 1 p.m., it will move to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Peyton Road. On Wednesdays, the truck will be parked at St. Mark AME Church on Campbellton Road in the morning and then move to Allen Temple AME Church on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard for the afternoon. On Thursdays, there will be stops at the Welcome All Recreation Center in the morning and the West End Family Life & Community Center on Donnelly Avenue in the afternoon.

What sets the Fulton Fresh Mobile Market apart is its focus on more than just distributing food. In addition to bags of fruits and veggies, visitors can also look forward to free nutrition instruction and live cuisine demonstrations that will help them make the most of the fresh food they get. These courses often provide ideas for how to make the most of seasonal products and how to cook healthy meals at home.

There are no hoops to jump through; anyone can join the market without having to sign up. The goal is to help families in Fulton County stay healthy by making healthy foods easy to find and access.

The Fulton Fresh Mobile Market continues to be an important resource for many people, especially since food prices and access problems are still big problems. The program seeks to make a real difference this summer by bringing healthy food directly to the community and teaching people how to use it.
