Fulton County, Georgia – Fulton County Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman who is known for her work in the “Mighty District 6,” has been chosen to serve on two important committees for the National Association of Counties (NACo). She will be able to affect policy and collaborative initiatives on a national scale because she is now a member of the Arts and Culture Innovation Council and the Large Urban County Caucus (LUCC).
As a member of the Arts and Culture Innovation Council, Commissioner Abdur-Rahman will speak out about how important arts and culture are for building strong communities. The council’s job is to show counties all around the country new ways to get people involved in culture, boost the economy, and help creative enterprises.
Being on the Large Urban County Caucus will let her work with other leaders from big cities in the U.S. on problems that are specific to those locations. The LUCC speaks for all urban counties in front of Congress and federal agencies, making sure that the concerns of big cities are heard in national policy making.
Commissioner Abdur-Rahman expressed gratitude to the committees for the chance to engage with them, saying that their work is very important to her district.
“County and community work is important work,” said Commissioner Abdur-Rahman. “The work that I will accomplish national with NACo is in true alignment with the goals set in the ‘Mighty 6’ District and all of Fulton County. I cannot tell you how grateful and proud I am to once again be able to serve our constituents on a national level.”
Her involvement in these committees is expected to make Fulton County’s priorities more visible and help her make connections and share ideas with people from across the United States. The appointments also show that she continues to be committed to defending the interests of her community, both locally and on a larger scale where national conversations can have an impact on local outcomes.
