Fulton County launches first youth homelessness conference with one unusual priority, listening to young people

Atlanta, Georgia – Finding a safe place to live can be difficult for young adults facing homelessness. Finding the right support, understanding available programs and knowing where to turn for help can make the situation even more complicated.

Fulton County wants to change that conversation by putting young people at the center of efforts to improve the services designed to help them.

The Fulton County Department of Community Development is preparing to host its first Youth Homelessness System Innovation Conference, known as YHSI-CON, on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. The event will bring together young adults, community organizations and service providers to discuss practical ways to improve support for young people experiencing housing insecurity.

The free conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Loudermilk Conference Center, located at 40 Courtland Street NE in Atlanta.

Unlike traditional conferences where professionals lead most discussions, this gathering will emphasize the experiences and recommendations of young people themselves.

The event is being organized in partnership with the Fulton County and Atlanta Youth Action Boards, whose members helped shape the conference. Young adults between the ages of 18 and 26 are among the intended participants, alongside advocates, service providers and other community partners.

Organizers have identified three main areas for discussion: sharing resources, helping young people navigate existing support systems, and developing new ideas for a more effective youth service network.

A central question will be how to make services easier to find and use.

Participants will have opportunities to exchange information, hear directly from youth leaders and service providers, and discuss changes that could better serve those struggling with unstable housing.

The conference also aims to encourage collaboration between organizations and the young people who rely on their programs. By involving youth in conversations about available resources and service delivery, organizers hope to identify opportunities for improvement.

Beyond the scheduled discussions and activities, attendees will have chances to participate in giveaways and receive prizes throughout the day.

There is no cost to attend. Registration, breakfast, lunch and parking will all be provided free of charge, although participants must register in advance.

Those interested in attending can register through Eventbrite.

Additional information is available by contacting organizers at [email protected].

The November 10 gathering will mark Fulton County’s first conference under the YHSI-CON initiative, creating an opportunity for young people and community partners to explore how existing support systems can better respond to youth homelessness.
