Fulton County public invited to weigh in on major reallocation of federal relief money for homelessness programs

Fulton County, Georgia – Fulton County officials want to hear from the public about a proposed change to its HOME-American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP) Allocation Plan. This plan shows how federal money will be used to help with housing and homelessness programs. The change means that more than $2.4 million in government relief money will be used in a very different way.

The money was originally set aside for Non-Congregate Shelter and Rental Housing Development, but it is currently being suggested that it be used for Supportive Services instead. This change is part of the County’s attempt to better meet the changing needs of vulnerable residents, especially those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The funding in question, a total of $2,432,222, was provided through the American Rescue Plan Act, which was signed into law in April 2021. Fulton County came up with the HOME-ARP plan to distribute this help in a smart way, with a focus on giving shelter and long-term housing support to the people who were struck worst by the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed change is a big step in that direction.

The County has made the revised plan available for public review and feedback to make sure that everyone in the community may have a say in this decision. Residents, community groups, and other interested parties can see the proposed revisions at the Fulton County Department of Community Development or on the County’s official website. The plan is open for public feedback for 15 days, from July 23 until August 7, 2025.

Written feedback on the proposed changes is welcomed and must be submitted by 4 p.m. on August 7. You can send your submissions in person, by mail, or by email to [email protected]. All comments that are received on time will be considered before any final decisions are made.

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners is likely to vote on the change at its regular meeting on August 20, 2025, at 10 a.m. The result will decide if the proposed reallocation of funding goes ahead.
