Georgia – Governor Brian P. Kemp has announced a big expansion of manufacturing in Effingham County. Virginia Transformer Corp. is getting ready to make big changes to its operations in Georgia. Georgia Transformer expects to spend $40 million to expand its facilities in Rincon and add more than 400 new employments to the area.
State leaders said that the announcement was a clear indication of faith in Georgia’s economic climate and workforce. Kemp welcomed the company’s decision to put down deeper roots in the state. He said that long-term cooperation between state, regional, and local partners made the expansion feasible. He pointed out that the initiative will bring real economic activity to the shore and help Effingham County’s manufacturing sector flourish.
The Rincon facility is very important to the company’s national presence. The plant, which is 250,000 square feet, makes big, specialized power transformers for a wide range of customers, such as big utility companies, data centers, and renewable energy companies. The fact that the facility can make equipment up to 500 MVA and 525 kilovolts makes it one of the most advanced transformer production locations in the country. Virginia Transformer has been progressively investing in modifications since it bought the factory in 2015. This latest expansion is one of the company’s most significant investments to date.
Local officials stressed the importance of the project as the community works to replace jobs lost from recent industrial setbacks.
“I’m proud to join Governor Brian Kemp and leaders across Southeast Georgia in applauding Virginia Transformer’s expansion in Effingham County. This investment comes at a critical moment as our region continues to face the fallout of recent mill closures and the loss of good-paying jobs,” said Speaker Jon Burns. “We are grateful for Virginia Transformer’s commitment to expanding their presence here in Georgia, and we look forward to welcoming the new job opportunities this project will create for the citizens of Effingham County.”
Virginia Transformer CEO Prabhat Jain stated that the company’s development is directly related to its concentration on engineering excellence and its reputation for quick turnarounds in the transformer sector. Jain said that the increased investment will help keep those benefits while getting the organization ready for more client demand in the years to come.
The Georgia Transformer site on GA-21 will start building the expansion in January 2026. In addition to the 400 new employment that will be created, more than 800 current ones will be kept. These new jobs will be in operations, maintenance, and assembly. Rincon Jobs on Indeed has already started hiring.
Local authorities and state officials in charge of economic development welcomed the initiative as a big step forward for the area. They said that Effingham County’s qualified workers, good transportation options, and helpful development initiatives are some of the main reasons why companies like Virginia Transformer keep growing there.
