Georgia posts $2.12 billion in February tax collections with mixed results across categories

Atlanta, Georgia – Georgia’s net tax revenues edged slightly lower in February, reflecting small shifts across several major tax categories even as overall collections for the fiscal year remain ahead of last year’s pace.

According to state revenue data, Georgia collected about $2.12 billion in net tax revenue during February. That figure represents a modest drop of roughly $2.4 million, or 0.1%, compared with February 2025, when collections were close to $2.13 billion.

Despite the small monthly dip, the broader fiscal picture remains positive. Through the first eight months of the fiscal year, Georgia has collected about $21.88 billion in net tax revenue. That total is approximately $343.2 million higher than the same period in the previous fiscal year, marking a 1.6% increase over the $21.53 billion collected during the same timeframe in FY 2025.

Individual income taxes accounted for one of the largest declines in February. Collections in this category reached $967.5 million, down $41.9 million, or 4.1%, from the $1.01 billion recorded in February of last year. The decrease was driven in part by a notable rise in refunds, which increased by $50.2 million, or 12.5%. At the same time, income tax withholding payments showed modest growth, climbing $10.8 million, or 0.8%. Individual income tax return payments slipped slightly by $0.6 million, while other individual tax categories, including estimated payments, declined by a combined $1.9 million.

Sales tax collections moved in the opposite direction. Gross sales and use tax revenue totaled $1.49 billion in February, an increase of $42.5 million, or 2.9%, compared with the previous year. Net sales tax collections rose even more sharply, increasing by $44.6 million, or 6.5%, from the $682.8 million reported a year earlier. Distributions to local governments reached $757.5 million, a 0.7% increase, while sales tax refunds dropped by $7.3 million.

Corporate income tax collections, however, declined significantly during the month. Revenue in that category fell by nearly $17 million, or 22.8%, compared with February 2025. Corporate tax return payments dropped sharply, falling $17.8 million, while other corporate tax payments, including estimated payments, decreased by a combined $5 million. Corporate tax refunds were also lower, declining by $5.8 million.
