Governor Kemp announces BioTouch’s $12.5 million Columbus expansion bringing 480 new jobs

Georgia – Governor Brian P. Kemp has announced a big boost for west Georgia. BioTouch, a worldwide healthcare logistics company, is moving forward with a big expansion in Columbus. The company will spend $12.5 million to expand its two Muscogee County plants, which will generate 480 new employment over the next four years.

Kemp pointed to the decision as another sign that Georgia’s economy continues to keep growing. He said that BioTouch’s investment shows how well the state has been able to bring new business activity to communities of all sizes. State lawmakers praised Muscogee County for getting an investment that will help the area’s economy and workers for a long time.

“BioTouch’s decision to double down on Georgia underscores how our approach to economic development is bringing opportunity to all parts of the state,” said Governor Brian Kemp in a press release. “I want to congratulate Muscogee County and the entire region on this exciting announcement and the jobs it will bring to this growing community.”

BioTouch is now a key actor in the healthcare supply chain, providing specialized logistics, kitting, temperature-controlled shipping, and technology services to labs and businesses throughout the world. The company in Columbus makes medical testing and sample collection kits. It currently employs roughly 390 workers at its local facilities, which are located in Corporate Ridge Business Park and Columbus East Industrial Park.

Rob Coyle, the company’s CEO, said that the decision to develop in Columbus is a natural next step in the company’s long-term growth.

“BioTouch has been proud to call Columbus home since 2005, and our commitment to this community remains strong. Expanding in Columbus has been a pivotal chapter in our growth story,” said Rob Coyle, CEO of BioTouch. “The city’s skilled workforce, business-friendly environment, and strategic logistics network have enabled us to scale faster and serve our customers more efficiently. Columbus isn’t just where we operate – it’s where we fulfill our purpose: To touch lives and improve outcomes.”

Hiring for the expansion has already started, and construction on the building is well underway. By 2028, the company should be able to run at full capacity. The company’s online employment portal is a great place for anyone looking for work to find out more about open positions.

Local leaders said that the announcement was clear evidence that Columbus can handle innovative manufacturing and global healthcare logistics. Selvin Hollingsworth, Chairman of the Development Authority of Columbus, complimented BioTouch’s continuous investment, saying it shows that the area is a good place for firms to grow.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Power, and Georgia Quick Start all worked together to help the project. Pat Wilson, the commissioner of GDEcD, said that BioTouch’s success shows how strong Georgia’s life sciences and manufacturing sectors are. He stated that the company’s growth shows how the state’s cooperative economic development system and focus on preparing workers can help businesses grow.

With several years of planned construction ahead, the project is likely to have a long-term impact on Muscogee County’s economy by creating hundreds of new jobs and making Columbus a more important part of the global healthcare logistics network.
