Georgia – RISE Preparatory Charter School, off Hogan Road in East Point, has said it will close permanently at the end of the current school year in an unexpected turn of events. Originally scheduled to last until June 2025, this decision ends the school’s operations early. The shutdown will end on June 30, so concluding the last semester of the school.
Since its founding in 2018, RISE, a K-8 school, has encountered a number of difficulties during the last three years. Originally chartered by Fulton County, the school sought to offer a different educational option for families in the East Point area. The Fulton County School Board decided against renewing its charter in 2023, hence RISE looked for and got a state charter from the State Charter Schools Commission. Regrettably, the state’s charter change did not fix the continuous problems of the institution.

The board of directors of the school claims that “the lack of time and resources necessary to ensure sustainable operations” beyond this academic year drove the decision to close. This announcement comes after the State Charter Schools Commission placed a governing board on probation, during which time it expressed concerns about the board’s capacity to properly run the school’s finances.
Plans are in place to help families and children during the transition as the school gets ready to close. On April 16 at 5 p.m., RISE will provide an informational meeting at the school to talk about the following actions for students, including public school enrollment options and student record transfer. This meeting is to answer any community questions and offer direction for the next changes.
