Local companies in Alpharetta encouraged to hire city residents through revived grant program

Alpharetta, Georgia – The Alpharetta Development Authority is reviving its job creation award program, meant to encourage local companies to employ city citizens, therefore boosting local employment. Announced on August 6, the continuation of this program over the next fiscal year shows a great commitment to support local economic development.

Originally started in 2013, the Alpharetta Jobs Creation Grant Program provides financial incentives to local businesses filling new roles with Alpharetta citizens. For every job offered, companies might get anywhere from $250 to $500; the position must be kept for at least one year. This program enhances a state job credit plan, therefore fostering local employment practices in combination with each other.

The program’s special relevance in the local economy was underlined by Lance Morsell, Alpharetta Economic Development Manager.

“A lot of local companies outside of a bond inducement don’t really have a lot of localized economic development incentives,” Morsell said as reported by Appen Media. “This kind of puts Alpharetta in a unique position of having something as an added benefit.”

To date, the program has benefited a selective group of companies, demonstrating its targeted approach to economic development. The initiative gave Fiserv, a worldwide leader in payments and financial services, $19,500; Primetals Technology USA, a metallurgical industry supplier, was given $8,000. These contributions highlight the program’s importance in sustaining the city’s economic infrastructure as well as in generating jobs.

The Development Authority reviews and approves the grant applications, thus guaranteeing a careful choice process fit for the strategic economic goals of the city. Morsell commended the initiative’s originality, pointing out that the city’s and the Authority’s creative direction and attitude reflect their pro-business orientation—that is, the invisible impact of this inducement.
