Runners will race across Fulton County airport runway to support domestic violence awareness

Fulton County, Georgia – An airport runway will become a racecourse this fall as Fulton County brings back a 5K built around movement, remembrance and domestic violence awareness.

On Saturday, October 10, runners and supporters will gather at Fulton County Executive Airport for the third annual Mighty 6 “Cleared for Takeoff” Domestic Violence Awareness 5K, an event hosted by Fulton County Vice Chair Khadijah Abdur-Rahman.

The race begins at 9 a.m. at the airport, located at 3977 Aviation Cir NW in Atlanta. But activities will start well before runners reach the starting line.

Check-in and the Pre-Race Wellness Village open at 7:30 a.m., giving participants time to prepare for the 5K while taking part in instructor-led activities. Professional fitness instructors will guide a community warm-up featuring yoga, stretching and other low-impact exercises.

The Wellness Village will remain available to racers until 8:30 a.m. Participants can also grab fruit, water and other nutritious fuel snacks and drinks before the race. Local performers will provide music as runners get ready for the morning event.

The 5K carries another purpose beyond reaching the finish line. In recognition of people affected by domestic violence, participants will have an opportunity to add messages to a Survivor Tribute Wall. The messages can offer hope and encouragement or serve as a remembrance of those impacted by domestic violence.

After completing the course, participants will receive medals during an awards ceremony.

The Mighty 6 Cleared for Takeoff Domestic Violence Awareness 5K is Peachtree Road Race Certified. Organizers are encouraging participants to arrive early, particularly to allow enough time to park, check in and visit the Wellness Village before the race starts.

The October event marks the third year Fulton County has held the Mighty 6 5K, combining fitness and community participation with a public focus on domestic violence awareness.

Registration is currently underway, and people who do not plan to race can also participate by volunteering.

More information about the event, including registration and volunteer opportunities, is available here.
