Healthgrades, America’s most-used website for finding doctors and hospitals, announced on Tuesday the winners of the 2024 America’s Best Hospitals Awards and State Rankings. This year, they are highlighting hospitals that are leading the country in overall healthcare quality and those that are the best in specific areas of care within states.
Healthgrades ranking method
Healthgrades uses a method that only looks at patient results to help people pick doctors who work at top hospitals. They checked the clinical performance of about 4,500 hospitals in the U.S. for more than 30 common treatments and health issues. Along with this national award, Healthgrades also ranked hospitals in 18 important medical specialties to find the best ones in 32 states.
In the America’s Best awards, they give three different honors to hospitals that are in the top one, two, and five percent in the nation for excellent clinical care.

“Hospital quality is a crucial, yet often overlooked, factor to consider when choosing a doctor,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades.
“Healthgrades is dedicated to taking the guesswork out of the equation by providing consumers with a reliable, data-driven platform to identify reputable hospitals in their area. We want to give patients the confidence they’re choosing the highest quality healthcare.”
A recent Healthgrades survey revealed that 76% of consumers would only choose a hospital with high quality ratings for their condition or procedure, and nearly two-thirds (63%) are more likely to choose a hospital that received a quality award when choosing between two hospitals for an upcoming procedure.
Ensuring patients have access to objective hospital performance measures is particularly important as the gap between the nation’s highest and lowest performers persists. In fact, if all hospitals performed similarly to America’s 250 Best Hospitals, 178,402 lives could have been saved.

Best hospitals in Georgia
This year, two Atlanta-based facilities made the top 50 list — Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown. Two others made the top 100 list — Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Piedmont Hospital.
Adventhealth Redmond and Emory Johns Creek Hospital earned a place on Healthgrades’ top 250 list.
