Traffic alert: Temporary closures on State Route 9 in Alpharetta for utility pole installation

Alpharetta, Georgia – The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced plans for temporary closures of State Route 9 in the downtown Alpharetta area, affecting the stretch between Academy Street and Cumming Street on two specific days in March. The closures are scheduled for Sunday, March 3, from 12:30 PM to 7:00 PM, and Monday, March 11, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, contingent upon favorable weather conditions.

These closures are deemed necessary for the safety of both the public and construction personnel as utility crews undertake the installation of large concrete utility poles along State Route 9. This activity forms a crucial part of the ongoing State Route 9 Improvement Project, aimed at enhancing the road’s infrastructure and utility service in the area.

During the times of closure, traffic intending to navigate through downtown Alpharetta will be rerouted via Academy Street, Roswell Street, Mayfield Road, Cumming Street, and Cricket Lane. GDOT advises commuters to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays and encourages the use of alternative routes such as Windward Parkway, Westside Parkway, and Old Milton Parkway to circumvent the downtown area entirely.

Local residents and frequent commuters are urged to stay informed on the closure schedules and plan their travels in advance to minimize inconvenience. The GDOT appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as they work towards improving State Route 9 for better safety and utility.
