Alpharetta, Georgia – The much-awaited building of the Wacky World Playground in Wills Park is now set to start in 2025, in what appears to be an exciting news for Alpharetta families. Although the project was initially scheduled to start sooner, local officials chose to change the plan to guarantee a better process and more financial efficiency.
Made on June 24, the decision by the Alpharetta City Council is a part of a larger effort to consolidate all intended enhancements at Wills Park under one contract. Combining these initiatives will help the city optimize taxpayer value and expedite building. This all-encompassing concept substitutes for the original $3.8 million bid for the playground, bathroom facilities, and related conveniences.
The Wacky World Playground’s creative idea is intact even with the delay. Design is still guided by the input acquired over a sequence of seminars with local young people and students. Director of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Services, Morgan Rodgers underlined the need of implementing the vision of the community.
“We’re still all in on bringing Wacky World Next Generation to life,” said Rodgers. “Although we were hoping to get started sooner, the new timeline will help make sure the project runs more smoothly from start to finish—and help us save money along the way.”

The community’s commitment to improve Wacky World exceeds city initiatives. Working nonstop, a citizens’ committee has been working tirelessly to raise $750,000 to cover extra playground elements. Through donations, sponsorships, and volunteer work, they have so far effectively gathered around $518,000.
“Every dollar raised helps make Wacky World even more exciting for our families,” said Dana Davis, Wacky World Committee Member. “We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support from our community, and the extended fundraising period gives us more time to reach our goals. It’s a win-win for everyone in Alpharetta.”
A pillar of Wills Park and a favourite among local families, the playground will remain open to visitors until building starts. Frequent inspections will guarantee it stays a safe and fun place for kids in the meantime.
Wacky World Playground is among several initiatives supported by the $29.5 million Parks Bond adopted by Alpharetta voters in November 2021. The bond shows the city’s dedication to provide citizens with more leisure options and to strengthen ties within the community.
For those eager to stay updated or contribute to the project, the Wacky World Committee provides regular updates on social media (@WackyWorldPlayground) and their website, wackyworld.org. The project is still driven by community participation, which once again shows how well Alpharetta responds to teamwork and shared vision.
