Cobb County, Georgia – More than two decades after two Cobb County real estate agents were killed inside a model home, Georgia has set an execution date for the man convicted of their murders. Stacey Humphreys is currently scheduled to be executed at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16, 2026.
The date comes after years of appeals in state and federal courts. On Aug. 27, the Superior Court of Cobb County established a seven-day execution window beginning at noon Sept. 16 and ending at noon Sept. 23. According to Attorney General Chris Carr’s office, Humphreys has completed his direct appeals as well as his state and federal habeas corpus proceedings.

The case dates to Nov. 3, 2003, when Cyndi Williams and Lori Brown were killed at a home construction company’s sales office in a Cobb County subdivision.
According to the Georgia Supreme Court’s summary of the evidence, Humphreys entered the office with a stolen handgun and attacked Williams before Brown arrived. Both women were forced to provide the PIN numbers for their ATM cards and were later shot. Their ATM and credit cards, along with their driver’s licenses, were taken from the scene.
Police focused on Humphreys after receiving information that he and his Dodge Durango matched descriptions connected to the investigation. He failed to appear for a meeting arranged through his parole officer on Nov. 7, 2003, and was arrested in Wisconsin the following day.

Investigators recovered a Ruger 9-millimeter pistol from his rental vehicle that was identified as the murder weapon. Blood containing Williams’ DNA was found on the gun, while Brown’s DNA was identified in blood found on the driver-side floor mat of Humphreys’ Durango.
More than $3,000 was withdrawn using the victims’ ATM cards after the killings. During questioning, Humphreys told police, “I know I did it. I know it just as well as I know my own name.”
A Cobb County jury convicted Humphreys in September 2007 of multiple charges, including malice murder, armed robbery and kidnapping with bodily injury. Jurors found 10 statutory aggravating circumstances and recommended death sentences for both murders.

The Georgia Supreme Court upheld the convictions and death sentences in 2010. Subsequent state and federal challenges were unsuccessful, with the U.S. Supreme Court most recently denying review on Oct. 21, 2025.
Unless the scheduled execution is delayed or otherwise changed, Humphreys’ execution is set to take place on Sept. 16.
