Georgia Governor Kemp praises outgoing GSFC president Lynne Riley and welcomes successor Chris Green

Atlanta, Georgia – Governor Brian P. Kemp has formally announced Chris Green’s appointment as the next President of the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC). With Governor Kemp’s recommendation approved by the GSFC Board, this decision marks a new chapter for the agency beginning in April.

Chris Green will be stepping into the role following the retirement of Lynne Riley, the current president, who announced her retirement plans earlier this year.

“I’m honored to congratulate Chris as he prepares for this new leadership role at an agency that has opened doors to educational opportunities for generations of Georgians,” Gov. Kemp said.

He underlined Green’s long experience in higher education and his ability to improve student access throughout the state.

The Governor continued to reflect on Lynne Riley’s contributions to the state, noting her major influence on the GSFC among other positions.

“Marty, the girls, and I also want to thank Lynne Riley for her many years of service to the state and for all she has done in recent years to help groundbreaking programs like Georgia MATCH be a success,” said Kemp.

He emphasized her former responsibilities, including her membership in the General Assembly and her leadership posts inside the State Treasury and Department of Revenue.

Chris Green brings a wealth of experience to his new position at GSFC. He was Senior Vice President of External Affairs at the GSFC prior to this appointment. His experience spans notable positions as Deputy Policy Director at the Georgia Department of Agriculture, Director of Government and Community Affairs at Georgia State University, and Director of Economic Development for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Having a Master of Public Administration as well as a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, Green is well-prepared for his new role.

Stakeholders and the educational community hope his leadership will carry on the tradition of his predecessors while adding innovative concepts and enthusiasm to the GSFC’s projects.
