Georgia public schools show academic progress in core subjects, most recent CCRPI report shows

Georgia – Georgia’s public education system shows improvement across elementary, middle, and high school levels in the 2024 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). State education officials eagerly revealed the findings, which show a thorough improvement in important intellectual and developmental areas.

“This year’s College and Career Ready Performance Index scores paint a clear picture of academic improvement across grade levels in Georgia’s public schools,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said

“While we have seen scores increase on state and national assessments, the CCRPI also encompasses other indicators – from schools’ success at improving the performance of all students to the opportunities offered beyond core subject areas. These scores show advancements across the curriculum, and where there are areas for improvement, the data allow us to make a focused effort toward growth,” Woods added.

A closer look at the scores

The 2024 CCRPI evaluates schools across five distinct components: Content Mastery, Progress, Closing Gaps, Readiness, and Graduation Rate, the last of which applies only to high schools. Significant gains were noted in a number of areas, most notably Content Mastery and Progress, where elementary schools and high schools respectively saw the most increases over year.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the improvements:

  • Content Mastery observed increases across all grade levels with elementary schools scoring 67.8, up by 3.1 points; middle schools at 64, also up by 3.1 points; and high schools at 68.2, improving by 3.2 points.
  • Progress scores were also commendable, with high schools marking the highest increase of 3.5 points, reaching 82.7.
  • Closing Gaps stood out in elementary schools with a perfect score of 100, though this component’s comparability year-over-year was not applicable due to assessment updates.
  • Readiness increased modestly but steadily across the board, with middle schools showing a slight lead.
  • Graduation Rate for high schools improved to 85.7, a rise of 0.8 points.

Understanding the CCRPI components

Each component of the CCRPI carries significant weight:

  • Content Mastery covers student achievements in core subjects like English, math, science, and social studies.
  • Progress measures growth in English and math and tracks English language learners’ progress towards proficiency.
  • Closing Gaps focuses on the performance improvement targets for various student subgroups.
  • Readiness evaluates factors beyond core academics, including literacy, attendance, and college and career preparedness.
  • Graduation Rate assesses the percentage of students who graduate within four and five years.

2024 legislative changes and their impact

Aiming to improve openness and give a better knowledge of individual school performances, recent legislation changes in 2024 have affected the CCRPI by removing the overall school scoring from 0-100. Currently computing a single score for schools and districts, the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) publishes these online to uphold responsibility and visibility.

Removing the overarching score allows stakeholders to identify strengths and areas for targeted improvement without the distraction of a single cumulative score. It’s a step towards a more nuanced and constructive evaluation of our educational landscape.

Looking ahead

The good developments in the 2024 CCRPI scores provide optimism and direction as Georgia keeps improving its educational policies and procedures. The emphasis now shifts to using these insights to improve educational results even more and guarantee that every Georgian kid has access to a high-quality education ready for college and the workforce.

Finally, the gains observed in this year’s CCRPI not only honor the diligence of teachers and students but also show a forward-moving trend in satisfying the educational requirements of every student throughout the state.
