Older Americans Month brings senior wellness events and community programs across Fulton County

Fulton County, Georgia – Fulton County is preparing to spend the month of May celebrating the older adults whose lives, work and continued involvement help shape communities across the county.

During its May 6, 2026 meeting, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners will proclaim May as Older Americans Month, joining communities across the country in recognizing the role seniors play in families, neighborhoods, civic life and local history. The annual observance is also meant to draw attention to the programs and services that help older adults stay healthy, connected and independent.

“Older Americans Month is an opportunity to recognize the contributions and impact of older adults across Fulton County,” said Dr. Pamela Roshell, Chief Operating Officer for Health, Human Services, and Public Works.

“We are focused on advancing healthy aging and ensuring our seniors have access to the resources and support they need to live well and remain engaged in their communities.”

Throughout May 2026, Fulton County Senior Services will host a wide range of events designed to bring seniors together and support their physical, social and emotional well-being. The schedule includes health-focused activities, fitness events, educational workshops, arts programming and cultural gatherings across senior facilities.

Among the planned highlights are the Walk for Wellness, Senior Olympics-style competitions, fitness and field day activities, themed dances and community celebrations. Together, the programs are intended to offer more than a calendar of events. They are part of the county’s broader effort to create spaces where older adults can remain active, meet others and continue participating in community life.

“Older Americans Month highlights the importance of connecting older adults with programs and services that support their health, independence, and overall well-being,” said Dr. Kweli Henry, Deputy Director of Fulton County Senior Services.

“Through these efforts, seniors are able to stay active, engaged, and thrive in their communities.”

One of the major moments of this year’s observance will come on May 11, 2026, when Fulton County opens the new Multipurpose and Adult Day Health Facility at the Health and Human Services North site, located at 4700 Northpoint Parkway. The facility is expected to expand access to services for older adults in North Fulton.

Beyond the May events, Fulton County says it remains committed to helping seniors through home-delivered meals, transportation, home support and other programs that promote independence and quality of life.
