Alpharetta commuters prepare for detours as Maxwell Road shuts down in early June

Alpharetta, Georgia – Starting June 3, Maxwell Road will be shut down from State Route 9 to Kilmington Court because of construction work. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is realigning the intersection as part of the State Route 9 Improvement Project. This project will cause Maxwell Road to be closed for 120 days. The closure is crucial to protect both the construction workers and the public during the construction period.

Motorists are advised to use the following detours to get around the road closure:

State Route 9 Northbound

Traffic will be detoured past Maxwell Road to turn right (eastbound) on Old Milton Parkway, to turn right (southbound) on Haynes Bridge Road, then to turn right (westbound) onto Morrison Parkway, and finally to turn right (northbound) onto Maxwell Road.

Maxwell Road

Drivers on the open section of Maxwell Road can reach State Route 9 by heading south on Maxwell to Hembree Road, then turning either left or right to follow the detour. Motorists near the construction zone should reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance from workers and equipment, and stay alert to their surroundings.

The scheduled closure date may be impacted by weather.  Please get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting https://511ga.org/, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.
