GDOT urges patience during Alpharetta road closures for safety and traffic flow enhancements

Alpharetta, Georgia – The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced that Maxwell Road and State Route 9 in Alpharetta would be closed for traffic until the end of October. This closure, which began in mid-June, is part of a larger effort to restructure the intersection and enhancing traffic flow and safety.

The closure is a critical component of the ongoing State Route 9 Improvement Project, which GDOT aims to complete by spring 2025. GDOT has prepared thorough detour paths for drivers passing through the area in order to reduce disruption.

For those heading north on State Route 9, the detour directs traffic east on Old Milton Parkway, south on Haynes Bridge Road, west on Morrison Parkway, and then back north onto Maxwell Road. Travelers southbound on State Route 9 should keep past Maxwell Road, turn south onto Northmeadow Parkway, east on Hembree Road, and then north again onto Maxwell Road.

Local traffic on Maxwell Road seeking to reach State Route 9 can drive south to Hembree Road, where they have the choice to turn either left or right to proceed their detour.

Throughout the constructing process, public and construction crew safety remains top concern. The Georgia Department of Transportation said it values the patience and cooperation of every citizen and driver during this period since it recognizes the difficulty this could create.

Drivers are urged to allow more time for travel and to be vigilant for changes and signage along the detour routes. Residents and commuters may check the GDOT website or call the City of Alpharetta’s transportation division for regular updates and further information.
