Georgia achieves record-breaking $53.1 billion in exports with a 6.4% rise, surpassing the national export growth rate

Atlanta, Georgia – Together with the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), Governor Brian P. Kemp said that Georgia has reached a major benchmark in its trade and export sectors in what appears to be a noteworthy economic success. With a staggering $53.1 billion in exports last year, the state noted a 6.4% rise from year before. This rise far exceeds the 2.3% national average increase, therefore underscoring Georgia’s growing involvement in global trade.

Georgia’s rise in trade rankings is equally remarkable as, in terms of the worth of commerce, it ranks sixth among the states in the United States currently. Georgia reached 222 different nations and territories and helped to enable nearly $198.7 billion in trade overall. Emphasizing the broad-based character of this achievement, Governor Kemp pointed out that more than 87% of Georgia’s exporters are small enterprises.

“With more than 87% of Georgia exporters being small businesses, these record-breaking numbers represent economic opportunity and success in every corner of the state,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “In 2024, Georgia outpaced the national average for growth in exports and moved up another rank in total trade, further demonstrating that our strategic investments and commitment to working with job creators to meet their needs are delivering results for hardworking Georgians.”

With exports to 219 different locations, the state kept its 12th rank in the United States for monetary value. Following civilian aircraft and parts, which remain the top export category for the state, are motor vehicles, data processing machines, phone sets, and medical equipment. This diversified export base enhances the resilience of Georgia’s economy, connecting it robustly with over 200 global markets.

GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson highlighted the state’s infrastructure and strategic partnerships as foundational elements that enable businesses to thrive. “Georgia offers extensive partnerships, expert guidance on export strategies, and top-tier infrastructure – including deepwater ports, railways, highways, and airports – that empower businesses to thrive in the global market,” Wilson explained.

Representatives in important marketplaces throughout the state help to support its global connectivity, and this approach looks to be paying off effectively. Last year, markets where Georgia keeps full-time representation accounted for 66% of exports and 83% of bilateral trade.

“A fourth consecutive year of record-breaking exports is an incredible accomplishment that requires strong partnerships at all levels, from global to local,” said Deputy Commissioner of Trade Lizann Grupalo. “Georgia’s international representatives are a key link to global markets, providing on the ground insights to navigate an ever-changing global environment. Their contributions allow our Georgia-based team members to serve Georgia’s small business exporters who otherwise may not have access to this information and opportunities.”

Georgia’s many major logistical centers help to further solidify its commerce powerhouse reputation. Among these are Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest and most efficient airport worldwide; the fast expanding Port of Savannah, currently the third busiest container gateway in the United States; and the Port of Brunswick, a significant gateway for roll-on/roll-off cargo. Complementing a multi-year trend, the Georgia Ports Authority again celebrated a year of steady increase in container volume.
