Azalea Fresh Market hits 150,000 customers as downtown Atlanta embraces local grocery option

Atlanta, Georgia – Nine months after opening inside Atlanta’s historic Olympia Building, Azalea Fresh Market has moved from a promising idea to a daily part of downtown life. The full-service grocery store at 25 Peachtree Street has now served more than 150,000 customers, a milestone city leaders say shows how strong the demand is for fresh, affordable food in the heart of Atlanta.

The downtown store was launched through a partnership involving the Dickens Administration, Invest Atlanta, Savi Provisions and the Independent Grocers Alliance. Since then, it has become a key stop for downtown residents, office workers and Georgia State University students who need groceries, prepared meals, produce and everyday food options close to where they live, work or study.

Mayor Andre Dickens said the stores in Downtown Atlanta and Campbellton are helping remove long-standing barriers to healthy food.

“Every family deserves the ability to purchase fresh produce, and nutritious meals close to home,” Dickens said, adding that the investments are also building healthier neighborhoods and supporting local economies.

The early success downtown is now shaping the next chapter. A second Azalea Fresh Market is under construction at Campbellton Plaza on Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta, an area that has also faced limited access to fresh-food retail. The planned 16,000-square-foot store is about 30% complete. Interior concrete slab work and underground utility installation have been finished, while framing, loading dock updates and facade improvements are expected to move forward in the coming weeks. The store is scheduled to open in fall 2026.

Azalea Fresh founder and CEO Paul Nair said the expansion will help the company grow its buying power, improve customer service and better serve communities that need more grocery options. He said the brand is focused on solving food-access issues while continuing to support Georgia vendors and local neighborhoods.

The downtown location’s momentum has also been tied to partnerships with local and Georgia-based vendors, including Westside Community Market, Anthony Murano, Alon’s Bakery and Arden’s Garden. Prepared foods have become a major draw, with nearly one in five dollars spent at the downtown store going toward grab-and-go meals, café items, sushi and other ready-to-eat options.

Invest Atlanta President and CEO Dr. Eloisa Klementich said the Campbellton Road location is expected to serve more than 1,700 residents each month and create a projected $2 million in annual economic impact.

For Gloria Leonard, president of the Bonnybrook Neighborhood Association, the project answers a need residents have felt for years. “I think this store would be an asset to the community, and we have been needing it for a long time,” she said.
