New behavioral health crisis center set to launch in Fulton County as early as August

Fulton County, Georgia – Fulton County is about to open a ground-breaking center meant to assist those going through mental health crises, thus significantly improving the mental health services available in the region. Planned for an official launch in August, the center—the first of its kind in the region—has preparations well under way as local officials—including a White House representative—get ready to attend the inaugural event.

Off Metropolitan Parkway, the new behavioral health crisis center will feature sophisticated features. Dedicated to provide round-the-clock behavioral health crisis care, the facility features 24 beds and an 18-chair observation room.

Grady Health System is in charge of operations; operational financing for the center comes from the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). Grady Health System spokesperson Anne Hernandez underlined the center’s extent and preparedness for use.

“If someone is feeling an immediate crisis or just ‘I’m just anxious today’ or ‘I need to talk to someone today.’ They can come here,” Hernandez said to 11Alive.

To guarantee thorough treatment, the facility has already hired 110 staff members including nurses and security guards.

From drug overdoses to suicide prevention, the crisis center will be especially suited to manage a wide spectrum of mental health concerns, therefore guaranteeing that everyone, regardless of their financial status, may get treatment. The main objectives are to make sure nobody is ever turned away simply because they cannot afford it.
